Collaboration with EVIL Bikes

With it feeling more consistently like summer, we felt it fitting to release our collaboration with the Deception Pass Park Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to provide financial and volunteer support to Deception Pass State Park to promote education and preserve resources. Our support of the Foundation comes in the form of this refreshingly drinkable Summer ale which will be available at their summer concert series. This beer has soft notes of strawberry mingling with flavors of honey, grapefruit, and apricot. A bright, crisp carbonation is the perfect finish for a beer meant to be drank in the sunshine. Grab a six pack and take this summertime crusher with you on your next outing. Cheers!

Beer of Choice

GOSE

4.5% ABV // 15 IBU // 11.8 P

tart + stone fruit + hint of salt

Two years ago, the Whatcom County beer community came together to create "Beer of Choice," a collaboration supporting reproductive healthcare. This collaboration was born from a great sense of community support that we all felt was needed in the wake of the SCOTUS Roe v. Wade reversal.

With the two-year anniversary being today, we are bringing back this campaign to show our continued support for reproductive health.

With two beers and 15 local breweries participating, this beer will be benefitting The Brigid Alliance. The Brigid Alliance is a referral-based service that provides travel, food, lodging, child care and other logistical support for people seeking abortions.

This year, our Beer of Choice brew is a Gose. It’s brewed with a 50/50 blend of Pilsner and Wheat malts, creating a sturdy malt profile while still providing a delicately soft mouthfeel. The traditional use of coriander and sea salt balance with the lightly tart acidity to create a beer with flavors of stone fruit, citrus, and a subtle salinity.

Employee Feature: Kris H.

Meet Kris Huntamer: A true goofball, hard worker, and a very well-rounded employee.

Kris started at Aslan in August 2020 as a dishwasher and since has worked in numerous positions. It was hard to move up, starting as a dishwasher, but he trained himself on the line and in the prep kitchen during his downtime and eventually worked his way up to prep cook, line cook, and kitchen lead. In May 2024 he moved to the front of house for a more well-rounded work experience and is one of our favorite support staff, flexing between hosting and running and even taking on extra tasks like cleaning the beer lines. His goal with this job is to become a bartender so he can serve his friends in the kitchen their shift beers.

During his time on the line, Kris’s  favorite menu item to make was the grilled cheese. It has a romano cheese crisp on the outside that he liked to make look pretty. His favorite thing to eat at work is a little different; After eating the same items for a few years he made up the “Kris special,” a rice bowl with karaage chicken tossed in pepper jam, pickled daikon and carrots, and cucumbers all garnished with sesame seeds, green onion, and sweet chili sauce.

Kris’ favorite part of working at Aslan is * drumroll please*…. The Disco Lemonade! And the people of course.

“I think the people make Aslan what it is, and it's really refreshing to go into work with people that care and people that you want to be around.”

Kris has a few close friends here at Aslan and was initially recommended by his older sister Kari. They both have a great sense of humor and tricked most of the staff into thinking they were twins, but they also knew how to work really well together.

“Kari was super helpful and honestly taught me most of the stuff I know. I'm so fortunate to have worked under such a strong, amazing woman, and get so much good advice to translate into me becoming a lead.”

Kris and his sister Kari at Huntamer park as kids and adults

Kris also worked closely with Jackson, a long-time friend of his. One of his favorite memories here was dishwashing alongside Jackson

“We had both gotten pretty good at it, and our chemistry was super good. I would turn the corner, he'd just look, I'd throw a dish at him, and he'd catch it and spray it. It was pretty cool.”

Kris and his friend Jackson during Jacksons graduation

Kris wearing an Lego apron and holding a Lego coffee

When Kris is not at work, he is in school full-time for Electrical Engineering and is in the Marine Corps. Both contribute to his work ethic and what he called his “endless motor.”

He snowboards in the winter, loves to sing along to his “Dreamy Golden Monday Afternoon” playlist which consists of Indie/Folk artists such as Shakey Graves and Noah Kahn, and last but certainly not least loves Legos. He even went by the nickname Lego for a couple of years while working at Aslan!

Kris is graduating next year and wants to pursue his career in electrical engineering. He is grateful for the experience here, but really we are lucky to have such a great employee!

grapefruit + pine + bitter

Collaboration with EVIL Bikes

We’re so stoked to bring back this collaboration with our friends at EVIL Bikes for the third year! At 6.66%, Evil IPA is easy drinking while packing a mighty punch. An almost savory pine character dominates the aroma while grapefruit and herbal notes mingle throughout. Those characteristics transfer into the flavor and pair with a light mouthfeel and a smooth, drying carbonation. With long, warmer days ahead, it’s the perfect beer to pair with whichever form of biking you choose!

Hefeweizen

lemon + tropical banana + clove

It finally feels like summer! We can’t think of anything better than sipping on a cold, refreshing beer during a hot, sunny day. We have the perfect beer for such an occasion. Our ode to summer is a traditional German Hefeweizen that has been double decocted for a deeper malt profile. Traditional German yeast is paired with noble hops creating an expressive bouquet of lemon, herbs, and clove and tropical banana. This beer finishes with a lightly prickling carbonation that dries the palate and encourages another sip. Cheers to summer!

Evolution

RED IPA

6.7% ABV / 58 IBU / 15 P

pine + citrus + earthy

Ten years feels wild to think about. How do you commemorate that length of time with just one beer? By taking it all the way back to the beginning. The first beer brewed on our original 15 barrel brewhouse was our Red Ale. To pay homage to that beer, we took the original recipe and took all of the “Evolution” that’s occurred over the past 10 years to create this Red IPA. This beer is way more nuanced than it would initially appear and presents with very inviting aromas of citrus and pine. A very sturdy malt profile holds up against the assertive hop profile. Flavors of brown bread blend beautifully with pine sweetness, orange marmalade, and a hint of kiwi. This beer is incredibly smooth and drinkable, a beer truly made for celebrating 10 years of organic Aslan beer!

VIENNA LAGER

4.6% ABV / 25 IBU / 12.5 P

toast + nutty + dark bread

draft only

When we initially asked the brewers what they wanted to brew for our 10 year anniversary, there were a ton of style ideas, but one thing became apparent: it needed to be incredibly drinkable. The Vienna lager that they came up with fits that need. This beer is toasty, bready, and nutty and subtly presents flavors of sweet orange, cherry, and fig. With a bright carbonation supporting a smooth, full body, this beer is as balanced as it can be. This beer is ready to be enjoyed all day as we celebrate 10 years of organic Aslan beer!

Batch 2000

IPA WITH BLACKBERRIES

6.7% ABV // 60 IBU // 14.8 P

blackberry + citrus + tropical

Just before our official 10 year anniversary, we brewed our 2,000th batch of beer, something we’re very proud of! It only felt appropriate to pay homage to our most popular, beloved flagship- Batch 15 IPA- and give it a bit of a twist.

Batch 2000 is the reliable favorite recipe for Batch 15 IPA, fermented on a generous amount of blackberry puree. The juicy orange and grapefruit notes that everyone knows and loves from Batch 15, pair deliciously with the jammy blackberry for a balanced sweet and tart finish, leaving you wanting more.

There’s so much blackberry in this beer that we had to let it sit in the fermenter for an extended amount of time, and the result was a more clarified, purple version of the beer that keeps our lights on around here. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Cheers to 10 years and 2000 brews!

Bay Drifter

AMERICAN PILSNER

4.5% ABV // 38 IBU // 11.4 P

bright + citrus + light body

Bay Drifter is an American Pilsner inspired by Bellingham’s first brewery, Bellingham Bay Brewery, founded in 1902. Obviously we don’t know what those beers tasted like back then but we did some research and came up with a beer that we think honors the time and tradition while still staying with the current flavors and ingredients. This pilsner is clean and bright with distinct cracker and white bread flavors paired with a grassy, lemony bitterness.

Earth To Beer

Amber Ale

5.2% ABV // 30 IBU // 13 P

nutty + dark fruit + citrus

This year for Earth Day, we were asked to be part of the Earth To Beer collaboration. Earth To Beer is a national campaign that challenges brewers to craft a packaged beer that’s better for the planet, pushing the limits of each brewery’s environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices.

Being an organic brewery, we knew we had to participate. Our Earth To Beer is a delightfully balanced and nostalgic Amber Ale. Brewed with sustainably sourced malts and salmon-safe hops. This beer welcomes you with flavors of fresh blueberries, dates, apricot, and warm bread crusts. A smooth, round body is balanced with a soft carbonation and gentle bitterness.

Proceeds from this beer go to Washington Conservation Action to advocate for environmental progress and justice through actions that mobilize the public, elect champion for the environment, and hold our leaders accountable.

Employee Feature: Samira

Meet Samira, Aslan Seattle’s spirited, badass General Manager who never fails to make you laugh!

Originally from Corvallis, Oregon, Samira has lived in a couple of different places before venturing to Seattle. From Corvallis, she went to Eugene for school and then ended up in Glacier, Montana. In Glacier, Samira worked at a rafting company and resort. (“I was NOT a raft guide, way too afraid of that! I was a reservationist!”)

Samira has now been in Seattle for 10 years. Her original plan was to move to Seattle to pursue music and go back to Montana for seasonal work, but she found a job in tech that she enjoyed, so she stayed for good! After four years in the tech industry, Samira decided that she wanted to work with people more, be on her feet rather than at a desk, and be surrounded by a more relaxing work environment… The beer industry was the perfect answer!

Samira got into beer working at Rueben’s Brews and was there for almost four years. She moved up the ranks, becoming the Assistant Tap Room Manager there. Jess, now Aslan Seattle’s Assistant GM, was working at Aslan when we were hiring for the GM position and reached out to Samira telling her to apply. “I was like, ‘What the hell?! I can do this!’ And it worked out!” said Samira.

Samira was hired at Aslan in June of 2021, making this her two and a half year mark here! She’s learned a ton after this time of leading this taproom:

“I was a little nervous going into this role being the person that is leading the charge. But, I have definitely grown a lot more confident in my decision making. I'm really good at problem-solving. Enough things happen randomly, and you learn from every single incident. You figure out how to prepare yourself the next time that happens or how to avoid those problems in the future. So I've just learned a lot. And that feels really cool and empowering.”

Seattle’s beer industry is pretty big and comes with a lot of friends. “The beer industry in Seattle is a really cool place. People are just excited to be here and to be friends and to try new things,” said Samira. After six and a half years in this industry, Samira has met so many people and created some amazing friendships!

Aslan Seattle is located next door to Local Tide, a sustainable seafood restaurant. You can order their food at our taproom and pair it with one of our beers. Through this companionship, the Aslan Seattle and Local Tide crews have become pretty close. “We feel so supported by them. They're really an extension of our team, and we are an extension of theirs,” said Samira. Local Tide and Aslan Seattle even had a Friendsgiving celebration a couple of weeks ago!

In her free time, Samira is learning how to sew, rearranges her house with her partner Derek, visits her four siblings down in Oregon, plays the guitar, and sings. If you didn’t see her at the Seattle Four Year Anniversary Party singing karaoke, you must come to the next karaoke night (date TBD!) to see her and join in the fun!

Samira has great ambitions for Aslan’s Seattle’s future, that includes more events, collaborations with Local Tide, and more! We are so grateful to have her on our team not only to provide great leadership but to help make you smile in any situation! If you haven’t met Samira yet, swing by the taproom and say hey!

BOHEMIAN PALE LAGER

4.5% ABV // 33 IBU // 11 P

toasted cracker + tarragon + balanced bitterness

Šumava (pronounced shoe-mava), is a Bohemian Pale Lager (also known as a Czech Pils) and Seattle’s 4th Anniversary beer! This beer is named after the Czech name for the forest that separates Germany from the Czech Republic. This is a region where a lot of this style of pale lager is brewed and is an homage to the OGs of pale lagers. The aroma boasts notes of tarragon, woodiness, and toasted cracker. The malt notes on the palate are developed thanks to the decoction process, tasting like bread crust and toasty crackers. The Saaz hops taste of fresh garden herbs like marjoram, tarragon, and thyme. The bitterness is present but balanced that aids in the crisp finish with a light-medium body.

Collaboration brew with Ecliptic Brewing

We had the absolute pleasure of teaming up with our new friends and industry legends at Ecliptic Brewing. We felt it was only appropriate when brewing with such a legend as John Harris, to brew an equally legendary style. Leo Rising is a porter and much like the astrological placement, this beer has a strong “mind” and clear intentions. At first whiff, bold, roasty greet you while softer, almost berry-like aromas linger in the background. Those aromas stay true in the flavor leaving an almost chocolate covered berry sensation on the palate. As we get closer to fall, we’re thrilled to have this beer gracing our tap lists! Cheers!
