We just received our latest equipment delivery: our grain silo. With a capacity of 60,000 lbs., the grain silo will save tons of waste, literally. The non-recyclable malt bags we were using are no longer necessary — each fill of the silo saves over 1000 bags. That’s over 300 lbs of waste. Not only will we reduce waste, we’ll also save labor. Transferring grain from the silo into the grist mill takes less time and effort than opening and emptying individual bags. We're stoked to start using it to streamline our brewing process and reduce waste.
Outdoor gear is “leisure gear” for some – but for young people sleeping outside, it is essential for survival. Help homeless youth stay warm this winter by donating in-demand items to Northwest Youth Services during October Survival Drive. Make a donation at any of the participating breweries: Aslan Brewing Co.,Boundary Bay Brewery, Chuckanut Brewery, Kulshan Brewing Co., and Wander Brewing.
Northwest Youth Services provides housing and wrap-around support services to young people age 13 to 24 in Whatcom and Skagit County. The nonprofit’s mission is to collaborate with at-risk, runaway, and homeless youth to foster self-reliance. Their vision is that all young people have a place to belong: to be safe, heard, and valued.
On Tuesday, October 4, each participating brewery will kick off the month-long drive with a “Drink Out” fundraising event: 10 percent of drink sales for that day will benefit Northwest Youth Services’ Detour Street Outreach Program.
Survival Drive Checklist:

Join us Friday, September 16th for the release of 10,000 Battle Axes — a Belgian Strong Dark that's been aging in both Cabernet Sauvignon & rye whiskey barrels for 10 months.
Aslan is teaming up with Western Solar Inc. and itek Energy to roll out Summer Solar Ale next week. It's a dry, refreshing, hoppy, hazy, grapefruity pale ale, perfect for summer. And it'll help raise funds for a solar panel system for Lydia Place, saving them over $53k in energy savings and rebates over 25 years.
Lydia Place has been a local provider of housing and case management services to homeless households for over 26 years. Not only will adding solar panels reduce emissions and save energy costs, it will help support a vital community effort to end homelessness. This is the kind of community partnership we live for at Aslan.
Recently, Lydia Place successfully raised the funds to open Baker Place, a permanent housing program where the panels will be installed. Baker Place will provide a safe, secure and collaborative living environment for up to seven homeless women at a time. The campus also includes two additional buildings that are owned and operated by Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services.
Join us June 30 at 6pm for the Summer Solar Ale Release Party. Support clean energy and community empowerment by drinking delicious beer. There’s no better way to kick off summer!

"When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free." —Barack Obama
The newest additions to our brewery arrived this morning: a 60 bbl fermenter and a 45 bbl brite tank. We'll be able to produce 7500 bbls a year with these new tanks. Last year, we produced 2500. Thanks to Marks Design & Metalworks, LLC - the Washington-based company who produced these beauties.
