Proud To Be A B Corp
Aslan Brewing has proudly been a B Corporation since January 2016.
Have you ever seen that little circled B on our cans and wondered what that’s all about? It means we are a B Corp! B Corps are mission-driven companies that balance purpose with profit. In a nutshell, B Corp inspires businesses to compete not only to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world. It is representative of the triple bottom line, which means we put the planet and our people over profit. Through a rigorous review and inspection process conducted by the B Lab, B Corps are required to meet high standards of social and environmental performance and ensure that these standards are comprehensive and transparent. It's like our USDA Organic certification but for the whole business, not just the beer. Aslan is a B Corp for the same reason we’re an organic brewery– it’s the right thing to do.
Unlike traditional corporations, B Corps are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions not only on their shareholders but also on their stakeholders (e.g., workers, suppliers, community, consumers, and the environment).
Every three years, we get audited to be recertified as a B Corp. 2022 was our most recent year for recertification. There are a range of qualifications we must meet, including governance, diversity in the workplace, waste management practices, energy usage, and how we treat our employees.
In 2022, the assessment for being recertified as a B Corp became even more rigorous. While that means more work on the back end of this project, it’s also a great way to hold us accountable and work towards new goals as we evolve. We certainly aren’t the same Aslan we were in 2019, as the world around us has changed immensely, and so have we as individuals and a company. We scored approximately 20 points lower this year than in 2019, which was relatively average for companies being recertified with the new standards. We’re excited to say that we’ve set more specific goals surrounding B Corp certification and look forward to working towards them so we can get back to scoring over 100 for our next recertification!
