February Nonprofit Highlight: Blue Skies for Children

FEBRUARY NONPROFIT HIGHLIGHT: BLUE SKIES FOR CHILDREN

Blue Skies for Children is an organization dedicated to supporting homeless, low-income, and foster children in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. Driven by a mission to raise hope and self-esteem, the organization focuses on providing essential resources and enrichment programs that help children overcome their challenges and thrive, despite their difficult circumstances.

Blue Skies for Children works to warmly enrich the lives of low-income, foster, and homeless children in our community by funding after-school activities such as gymnastics, music lessons, and martial arts (among others) that the children are excited to try but otherwise would not be able to, and by providing new coats, shoes, hats, gloves, and blankets to children for the colder seasons. We are supported by local businesses who discount their services for our clients, and donors who share their financial resources, time as volunteers,  and craftmanship gifts like handmade knitted hats, blankets, and quilts. We often work closely with refugee populations, single parents, and disabled communities who are grateful for extra support, structure, and growth opportunities in the lives of their children

Blue Skies for Children envisions a future where families have access to the basic essentials and growth opportunities that they cannot otherwise afford. This support helps children feel equal to their peers, raising their hope and self-esteem, and allowing them to see their own potential. They generate assistance for children ages six to eighteen.

They would also like to increase their capacity to grant “Little Wishes” which are specific requests from children that inspire a sense of joy and hope. Whether it’s a new winter coat, a pair of shoes, or the opportunity to attend a summer camp, these wishes help children feel special and cared for. The organization relies on a variety of funding sources, including grants, donations, fundraisers, and monthly program donors to fulfill these needs and expand their impact.

Aslan is matching all donations made to Blue Skies for Children through our online and in-house round up program (up to $2,000) throughout February.
